Applied Economics 4+1 BS/MS

This program allows students enrolled in the BS Economics to obtain their MS in Applied Economics at an accelerated rate.
|
Admission
Students can apply for admission to the 4+1 program from any major if they fulfill the following requirements: - Sophomore standing
- Complete Math 101, Econ 111, 112, 311, and 312 with C or better in each.
- 3.5 GPA in the major.
- Transfer students must take at least two economics courses at USF before applying.
Students in the five-year program may begin to take graduate-level courses when they achieve junior-level standing at the university, but no more than 18 units of graduate courses may be taken before graduating with the BS degree and no more than 9 units of graduate-level courses may be counted toward both the BS and the MS. Students graduate with the BS and officially matriculate into the MS program upon completion of college graduation requirements. Program Learning Outcomes
Undergraduate Program Requirements
- Undergraduates must complete 44 units for the major, including the 10 courses specified here plus additional Economics elective(s) totaling 4 units.
- Additional units may be completed by taking electives, chosen from Economics courses numbered 300 or higher, Math courses numbered 200 or higher, CS 112, CS 161, or other CS courses numbered 200 or higher.
- Up to 9 units of graduate-level coursework may also be used to satisfy graduate program course and unit requirements.
- The ECON 425/427 undergraduate capstone course requirement is replaced by the graduate program requirement of ECON 690.
- Economics 620 may replace Economics 320.
- Economics 615 may replace Economics 415.
MS in Applied Economics (4+1)
- The MS consists of 33 units.
- Course requirements are precisely the same as those specified in the Applied Economics, MS program description.
- Economics 320 with a grade of A- or better taken at USF may be substituted for Economics 620.
- Economics 415 with a grade of A- or better taken at USF may be substituted for Economics 615.
- Up to 9 units of graduate level courses counted toward undergraduate economics major requirements may also be counted towards course and unit requirements for the MS program.
- No more than 15 units of graduate-level courses taken prior to graduation with the BS may be counted toward the MS.
