Gerontology Minor

The Minor in Gerontology provides undergraduate students with an interdisciplinary understanding of the many aspects of the aging process and gives them the knowledge to pursue a career in the growing field of gerontology. Students are provided opportunities to experience the connection between learning about aging and working with older adults in the community. The Gerontology Minor promotes social justice for people of all ages and inspiration to improve the lives of older adults.

Program Learning Outcomes


Students will be able to:

  • describe biological, social, or psychological aspects of the aging process
  • articulate the importance of engagement in social justice for people of all ages

Minor Requirements (20 Units)


A minimum of 10 credits must be taken at the University of San Francisco. No more than 3 major courses can simultaneously count for both a student’s major and minor.

Required Science Course Options (4 Units, Choose 1 course)


If registering for BIOL 108, you must also register for BIOL 109. If registering for BIOL 115, you must also register for BIOL 116.

Required Breadth Course Options (8 units, Choose 2 courses)


*Note: Students can take any two courses listed below to fulfill the breadth course requirement. If more than two courses listed below are completed, the third and/or fourth will count as a minor elective(s).
