Latin@-Chican@ Studies Minor

The minor draws from curricula in departments throughout the university. Students complete 20 hours of coursework: one required course, and four electives. Two of the electives must be from the list of “full coverage” courses on Latin@-Chican@ topics. The remaining two courses may offer partial coverage of Latin@-Chican@ themes.

Program Learning Outcomes
Students will:
- comparatively analyze social, economic, and/or political forces shaping the historical experiences of Chicanx and Latinx communities through academic contexts
- read and write academically and intellectually sophisticated texts that examine, interrogate, and consider issues relating to Chicanx and Latinx communities
- describe, appraise, and criticize master narratives from popular, scholarly, and/or civic discourse that often perpetuate systemic inequalities especially as they relate to the Chicanx and Latinx populations
- summarize and critically assess current social, political, and economic issues that affect Chicanx and Latinx Studies
