  • NURS 760 - Psychopharmacology

    This theory course will primarily focus on the effective clinical judgment in the psychopharmacological management of patients with mental illnesses across the lifespan. It will address the major categories of psychotherapeutic drugs, their drug interactions and the effects on the individual with psychiatric illness across the lifespan. Emphasis is on the advanced practice clinician’s role in the assessment, prescribing, and the administration schedules titration strategies of psychiatric medication. Assessment and management of potential medication adverse experiences, medication education and the side effect management for patients and their families is also a major focus.

    Course gives an overview of the principles of finance and fiscal management as applied to decision-making in clinical systems. Economic issues which affect health care systems and patient care delivery will be analyzed. Financial reports and statements will be used to analyze the profitability and fiscal stability of organizations. Students will participate in all aspects of the budgeting process. Forecasting techniques and research will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of financial management strategies.   • NURS 768 - Appl Psycho Treatment Plan


    Unit(s): 3

    This course develops applied assessment and management skills in the treatment planning of psychotherapies used across the lifespan with an emphasis on psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) application in the clinical setting. The PMHNP psychotherapist demonstrates evidence based treatment planning skill across the lifespan for the individual, couple, family and small group interventions. Neurobiological and psychosocial models will be analyzed and applied to the assessment and management of behavioral health disorders. The child, adult, and older adult will be examined in terms of their need for health promotion, treatment, or maintenance of physiological disorders and/or acute and chronic mental disorders. Research and epidemiological data will be employed to formulate outcome-based practice. Evidence based research finding will be used to formulate outcome-based practice.     This interprofessional survey course will provide the student with a theoretical foundation in population health approaches to improving systems of care and health outcomes. The student will analyze empirical evidence in population health and appraise interprofessional population health strategies from a local, national, and international perspective. Students will identify and demonstrate methods for completing a community or health systems assessment and apply the assessment to the conceptualization of interprofessional strategies for improving population health systems of care.

    In this course doctoral students will learn and apply the principles of planning, scheduling, and monitoring activities from a leadership perspective to produce a potential evidence-based change of practice project plan.
