Integrating Graduate and Undergraduate Requirements
After joining the 4+1 program, students may begin taking courses toward graduate program requirements. While still in undergraduate status, students may complete up to 18 units of their MS program requirements. All remaining units must be taken in the final year after transitioning to graduate status.
Of the 18 units taken toward graduate requirements while in undergraduate status, up to 8 units can be double-counted toward both ECON major electives requirements and the graduate degree. These include:
- 400-level ECON classes that received a grade of A- or better. These can be counted toward the graduate degree as electives.
- 500- or 600-level ECON classes count toward the graduate degree as indicated in the MSAE program requirements and also can be counted as electives toward the undergraduate major. Because students will complete a graduate-level capstone course in their final (graduate-status) year, one of these 600-level graduate courses may replace the BS capstone course (ECON 425 or 427).
