The MPH in Applied Epidemiology & Public Health Methods trains students to assess the frequency, distribution, and determinants of population health through traditional and innovative epidemiologic methodologies. Students learn to address public health issues applying evidence-based strategies, with a focus on quantitative and analytical methods. With rigorous methodological training in epidemiology, biostatistics, and research methods, students will apply skills in survey research, geographic information system (GIS) mapping, and data management and visualization. This rigorous training is paired with teaching through a social justice lens with a focus on reducing health disparities, promoting health equity, and improving population health, especially among historically and systemically disadvantaged communities.
This MPH prepares students for employment opportunities in disease surveillance, outbreak investigations, epidemiologic research, and public health data analysis, among other opportunities. Students gain real world, hands-on experience through coursework and an applied epidemiology fieldwork experience. Graduates are prepared to work for state, county, or local public health agencies, academic medical centers, and the private sector.
