Art History Minor

The Art History minor trains students in the history, visual literacy, critical thinking, and research and writing skills that will help them to become successful professionals in the art world and well beyond. Minors go on to graduate studies and successful careers in the humanities, art history, curatorial and museum studies, law, psychology, business, biology, medicine, and more.

Program Learning Outcomes


Students will:

  • Analyze works of visual art and architecture in their aesthetic, historical, and/or cultural contexts
  • Develop art historical arguments in oral or written form using common disciplinary methodologies
  • Articulate critical roles that art can play in considering ethical issues and effecting positive social change

Minor Requirements (20 units)


Residency Requirements: All students must complete at least three courses (12 units) in residence at USF, and at least two must be at the upper-division 300-level. Students who are enrolled in an approved study abroad program or the USF Honors College may receive credit for one upper-division art history course (up to 4 units).

Required Core: Choose ONE (4 units)


Core course must be taken before electives.
