Advertising Major

We prepare our students to become advertising professionals through courses in Advertising, Communication Studies and Computer Science and/or Design.

Program Learning Outcomes
- Critical thinking: Independently critique advertising briefs, creative work and communication strategies
- Problem solving: Apply academic and industry theories and tools to frame, analyze, and creatively solve real-world problems
- Industry knowledge: Describe key industry players and trends and use agency tools, processes and protocols
- Social justice: Evaluate the contextual ethical implications of advertising, and engage in advertising practices that are professional, socially responsible and in the mutual interests of organizations and communities
- Teamwork: Work collaboratively with diverse team members, recognizing and negotiating individual differences and strengths, to solve problems and deliver solutions
- Communication: Articulate a clear message and effectively adapt it for a specific target audience Inspired by the program and University mission

Notes:
Only one course can be shared and counted (so, double count) toward both a student’s Advertising major and any other declared major or minor(s).
* Prerequisite: minimum grade of C- in ADVT 201.
** Prerequisite: restricted to junior and senior Advertising majors who have completed at least one track course elective, and ADVT 202 (see course details for ADVT 202 grade minimums).
