BAM 306 - Management Principles: Accounting Unit(s): 2
This course is an introduction to the financial accounting process, but also serves as an introduction to generally accepted accounting principles accepted by accounting professionals in all sectors, including the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. The purpose of this course is to understand the accounting process and to develop skills necessary to evaluate an enterprise’s financial position and its operating, investing, and financing activities. The course is designed to help students appreciate the role of accounting in providing information helpful to decisions of investors, creditors, government regulators, management, and others, and understand how that information can be used. Students will also learn how accounting standards and managerial incentives affect the financial reporting process. By the end of this course, students will be able to prepare and read the three most common financial statements: the income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows.
