ART 377 - Critical Brand/Package Design Unit(s): 4
This course introduces students to the study of critical package and brand identity design–how abstract and concrete ideas are attached to objects, organizations, and movements. Through the lens of history, contemporary research, and informed forecasting, students explore brand and packaging design solutions. Course work focuses on ways to design consistent yet flexible written and visual messaging systems to be carried out in 2-D, 3-D, print, and digital contexts. Lectures, readings, and case studies supplement project work, introducing students to the larger impact that branding and packaging has on society, politics, economics, psychology, and technology–both positive and negative.
Prerequisite: ART 205 with a minimum grade of D- Restriction: Field of Study Restricted to Design; Class restricted to Senior, Junior College of Arts & Sciences
