Unit(s): 4

This course is an interdisciplinary examination of the ethical and policy dimensions of public health. The course provides an overview of each subject and explores how historic and current activities in these arenas promote (and hinder) socially just outcomes in the field of public health. The course will examine these independently as well as explore the intersection of these fields. Using a case study format this course will introduce students to the fundamentals of health policy and law at the state and national level, healthcare financing and delivery, differences between public and private health insurance, and ethical frameworks. Students will apply these concepts by conducting a policy analysis and identifying strategies for policy advocacy.
