MAIS 639 - Migration&Forced Displacement Unit(s): 4
This course combines a theoretical background in critical migration and refugee studies with an examination of legal regimes, institutional contexts, and political climates within which migration occurs, and a consideration of the potentials of migrant rights activism and advocacy to create meaningful change. Taking a comparative global perspective, the course includes case studies from Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas, and focuses on both south-north and south-south migration. Through these grounded case studies, the course explores various proposals to create safe, just, and equitable solutions for displaced people and host communities, and to support the lives and livelihoods of migrants worldwide.
