BUS 352 - Doing Bus in a World Region Unit(s): 4
This class is designed to give students an understanding of the economic, historical, political, social and cultural currents in the Indo-Pacific region as a backdrop to operating effectively in the region’s business environment. Geographic areas of emphasis will include East Asia (particularly China, Korea, Taiwan and Japan), South Asia (India and Pakistan) and Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia). The role of the US (particularly California) as a Pacific-facing state will also be considered. A constant underlying theme will be the US-China strategic competition and the strategies used by other nation-states to deal with that competition. Other areas of focus will include the roles of businesses, foundations, and international institutions such as ASEAN, the World Trade Organization and the Asian Development Bank, and NGOs such as the Asia Foundation. The role of women in society and the workforce, the impact of climate change, corporate social responsibility and ethics, and the importance of diversity in teams will be important themes as well.
