CHIN 342 - The Art of Chinese Calligraphy Unit(s): 2
This course explores the fundamental principles and techniques of Chinese calligraphy. Students learn the essential features of the Chinese writing system, including its cultural significance, principles of formation, and the skills required to practice calligraphy. Throughout the course, students are introduced to the Seal and Clerical scripts and engage in regular writing practice to develop their proficiency. By the end of the course, students have a deep understanding of the internal structure of Chinese characters and their cultural and philosophical significance. Additionally, they develop an appreciation for the art and beauty of Chinese calligraphy.
