FREN 203 - French through Performance Unit(s): 4
This course uses performance-based pedagogy to address advanced foreign language comprehension, reading, writing, and speaking. Students adapt narrative texts into scripts that can be performed on stage in three phases. In the preparatory step, we read and reread a complex narrative passage in order to essentialize its meaning, then transform it into a concise, easy-to-perform text. In the productive step, students in groups represent cognitively (the way they understand the text) and performatively (offering a show) the work they have done on the text. In the auto-reflective step, students respond in writing to the experience of working on the text.
