L&I 659 - Collaboration & Social Emotional Learning

This course focuses on interaction process skills for school professionals. Collaboration concepts are the pivotal points for the analysis of interpersonal problem solving as utilized with the service delivery models of teams, consultation, and co-teaching. The development of effective communication skills is paramount to case management in interdisciplinary settings for students from diverse cultural, linguistic and/or ethnic backgrounds. Deliberations will include collaboration techniques for working with families and all student support personnel in order to develop effective Individualized Education Plans, Individual Transition Plans, and Targeted Interventions. Additional focus in this course will be placed on identifying the unique characteristics for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and mitigating the challenges associated with language, communication, social skills and behavior-based needs through intentional collaboration. Candidates will be exposed to examples and further explore best practices for disseminating information to colleagues to support access to the Least Restrictive Environments for students with the Autism Spectrum Disorders designation.
