MPH 688 - Political and Policy Analysis

Unit(s): 3

This course will explain the need for policy and the processes involved in creating policy. Students will explore frameworks for analysis of the political development of public health policy. Eugene Bardach’s well established “Eightfold Path” will be used to analyze and develop actionable public health policy recommendations in political environments. Models of political and policy analysis will be employed to critically assess existing and to develop new health policy, including but not limited to stakeholder analysis, consensus building, climate analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and political timelines. In-depth discussions of public health politics and policies will facilitate development of skills for proposing actionable policy recommendations.
