O&L 626 - Social & Critical Theory Unit(s): 3
(Higher) education is contentious terrain and an institution centrally configured in many of the current struggles around the growth of global capitalism, neo-liberalism, racial privilege, class antagonisms, gendered disparities and equity. This class is organized around some of these key struggles, bringing social and critical theory into conversation with the daily battles taking place on educational terrain. This seminar has two goals: First, to provide a space to collaboratively, critically and rigorously work through a core set of social and critical theories related to the field of higher education. Second, to provide students the opportunity to reflect on their own lives as a way of understanding the limits and possibilities embedded in the institution of higher education.
Restriction: College restricted to School of Education; Field of study restricted to Higher Ed / Student Affairs, Organization and Leadership Major School of Education
