000 to 099 designate courses which normally are not counted towards a student’s baccalaureate.
100 to 299 designate Lower Division courses. This category is further subdivided as follows:
100 to 199 designate undergraduate Lower Division courses recommended for, but not restricted to, students studying the subject at a freshman or sophomore level. Such courses generally do not require any prerequisite course work for fully matriculated students.

    Summer 20: The purpose of this course is to ensure a thorough knowledge of the world’s major wine-producing regions, their noble grape varietals, their classification systems and quality control laws. This course will introduce students to critical analysis of wines with emphasis on the relationship between sensory properties of the wines and factors associated with the diversity of viticulture. Particular emphasis will be placed on the ability to identify the nuances in different varietals and the ability to properly pair food with those varietals. Biodynamic and sustainable vinicultural practices will be examined.

    This course is an introduction to the principles and techniques for data visualization which is graphical depictions of data that can improve comprehension, communication, and decision making. This course will focus on teaching how combining existing and new sources of data with advanced analytics can power new business opportunities.  Students will learn techniques, with a how-to guide that shows them how to leverage big data to drive business value. We are living in an age of information overload. Large amounts of data are generated by humans, computers, and instruments, and much of the data are available on the Internet. Today’s big challenge is not about generating data sets, but how to analyze them. While looking at numbers and texts can provide insights, the enormous data size often makes this task impractical. One solution is to use data visualization tools to convert the numbers and texts into pictures or interactive visual presentations. Another key element of this course to enable students to generate business insight: interpret analytical results in terms of a larger context, identify and prioritize issues, and cogently articulate business insights.

    This course is primarily concerned with providing students the foundation of knowledge necessary to build the skills needed to operate in the world envisioned by the AICPA when they adopted the Electronic Business Strategic Initiative. Accounting is defined by the AICPA as “a service activity whose function is to provide quantitative information, primarily financial in nature, about an organization that is intended to be useful in making … decisions.” Accounting Information Systems (AIS) encompasses those systems, manual and automated, that collect, store, manipulate, disseminate, and present that information to the decision-maker.

    Prepares students for and immerses them in a global virtual team project. The course is structured in two distinct phases. The first phase focuses on the academic foundations of teams, project management, and cross-cultural challenges. Chinese economy is going through a period of transition. Alibaba’s Jack Ma has said ‘Now is the most painful period’ for the Chinese economy. While a rebalancing of the real economy is largely on track, personal income is growing, and the services sector is growing rapidly. Yet, millions of Chinese workers are facing the prospect of losing their jobs as China moves away from manufacturing toward services and consumption. China is the world’s largest consumer market and also been America’s fastest growing export market. This “new” market of 1.3 billion people-coupled with the meteoric rise of China’s new middle class-holds enormous potential for America’s manufacturers and service providers. This course will examine emerging issues and trends such as urbanization; rise of the mass consumer; as well as economic, political and cultural challenges of doing business in China. Topics covered ranging from the historical and economic factors leading to China’s path to capitalism, “Reform and Opening”, women migrant workers at the APPLE factory, minorities in the urban areas, one child policy, to the role of returning students in Chinese society. With close guidance of the practicum faculty, students will identify and work with a business, public, or nonprofit organization. In addition to formal class sessions, students, working individually or in small teams, will complete a defined organizational project of approximately 100 hours that has both practical value and academic rigor. Through this community-engaged learning (CEL) course, students facilitate “events with a purpose” by working with local organizations that use events to bring community members together to support their communities’ needs.     USF students are accepted after a competitive application process. This course includes an international destination centered on onsite engagements, with local organizations, and a rich schedule of cultural and social events.     This course includes 6 visits to companies in the Bay Area or international companies centered on onsite engagement with approximately 6 companies that are using big data to achieve a business advantage. This course is designed to enhance and extend the content in the business analytics major. We will use a combination of case studies and hands-on projects to give you experience in identifying opportunities for leveraging data to support, make, and implement decisions. We will also provide an overview of the key engineering tools used for working with business analytics, providing an introduction to some of the core projects used for both real- time data processing.The Business Analytics Immersion introduces you to how analytics frames the decisions in business environments across industry domains. Students will learn how managers, with diverse analytics backgrounds, harness big data to inform decision-making.

While capital is a necessary element of launching a venture the types of capital, the terms of financing, valuation of the enterprise, and follow-up financing alternatives can vary widely. This course will explore the various financing options and enable student entrepreneurs to decide upon which type of financing is most appropriate for their venture, the amount of financing necessary, financial forecasting and milestone planning, and the structuring of the financing contract.
