The Ed.D. in Learning & Instruction offers coursework and research experiences to address a range of practical and theoretical problems in informal (e.g. community organizations; non-profits) and formal (e.g. K12 schools; community colleges, higher education) environments. In line with the mission of USF and the School of Education, faculty and students explore issues of equity, social justice and learning across a range of educational settings.

Program Learning Outcomes
Graduates of the L&I Ed.D. program will:
- Develop a nuanced and integrated understanding of foundational theories in educational psychology with a focus on learners, learning and instructional approaches
- Develop the ability to critically read, analyze, and synthesize educational research
- Develop and employ methodological skills for collecting, analyzing, and using data to address problems of practice and work toward equity and justice in education and related fields
- Design and conduct research that contributes new knowledge to the field and promotes equitable and just approaches to education, culminating in the writing of a doctoral dissertation
Major Requirements (60 units)
L& I Foundation Core (9 units)
These courses provide students with foundational knowledge about learning theories and the use of those learning theories in practice and research.
The 12 units of coursework to fulfill the inquiry and methods requirements are as follows:
Students are required to complete 15 units of L&I Elective courses
Students can select 5 courses from the following L&I offerings in consultation with the student’s adviser:
12 credits of pure elective courses
Finally, students also have the option of taking 12 credits of pure electives, within the L&I department or any program within the School of Education. Students have the option of adding a minor in Educational Technology (ETK), along with the Ed.D. in Learning & Instruction. Students may also choose to develop a minor with a sequence of 4 related courses in O&L or IME, but must be done so with the approval of their L&I advisor and an advisor from the minor department. The minor is in lieu of the 12 credit pure elective requirement. Students can complete both MA or Ed.D. courses to meet this requirement.

These courses are designed to prepare and guide students through the dissertation process.
Note:
Students complete the program by successfully defending their dissertation research in Dissertation Research and Writing.
