USF’s Journalism Minor emphasizes real-world, hands-on reporting. The core skills of ethical journalism – critical thinking, accurate and engaging storytelling and clear and effective communication – are essential and sought-after in many careers. A commitment to unearthing truth, strengthening community and pursuing justice are the cornerstones of our journalism program.

Program Learning Outcomes
Students will:
- Demonstrate an ability to produce clear, accurate and compelling stories produced in various media formats using reporting techniques, including interviewing, first-person observation and in-depth research.
- Articulate and apply journalism ethics.
- Demonstrate understanding of core journalism theories and know how and when to apply them in practice.
- Demonstrate understanding of major historical, political, cultural, technological and economic developments in journalism.
Minor Requirements (20 units)
Over five courses students learn fundamentals of reporting, writing, multimedia production and ethical journalism practices.
