Environmental Science Minor


The minor in Environmental Science is designed for students who wish to prepare for a possible career in the environmental sciences.

Program Learning Outcomes


Students who complete the minor requirements in ENVS will be able to:

  • Demonstrate and communicate an understanding of basic concepts in Environmental Science.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the interdisciplinary nature and complexities of key environmental issues.
  • Develop skills in applying the scientific method to environmental issues.

Required Courses (20 units)


5 courses (20 units) are required

  • 1-Introductory course (100 level)
  • 1-foundational course (200 level)
  • 2-depth courses (300 or 400 level)
  • 1 elective (100, 200, 300, 400 level)

A maximum of 4 units of overlap is allowed with

  • Supporting science courses (BIOL, CHEM, etc.)
  • An environmental certificate program (GIS)
  • Environmental courses beyond the natural sciences (ENVA, BAIS, etc.)
  • Other environmental courses in a student’s major
