CS 230 - GenAI & Agents Unit(s): 4
Generative AI (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) are transforming the way software is developed and deployed, and agent programming represents the next frontier in intelligent applications. This course introduces students to the fundamentals of working programmatically with LLMs, including prompt engineering, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, multimodal models, and fine-tuning strategies. The second half of the course focuses on agent programming, where students will design and build systems that can reason, use tools, and coordinate with other agents. This course emphasizes hands-on, project-based learning. Students will work individually and in groups on labs, mini-projects, and a final group project. Classes combine discussions, live coding, and collaborative design, while labs focus on guided implementation. There are no exams; instead, students will demonstrate mastery by developing practical GenAI and agent applications. Active participation is required.
Prerequisite: CS 112 with a minimum grade of C College of Arts & Sciences
