PHIL 309 - History of Asian Philosophy Unit(s): 4
This course provides a historical introduction to major figures and themes in Asian philosophy, with sustained attention to, e.g., Indian, Chinese, and Japanese philosophical traditions. Students will engage directly with primary philosophical texts that address central questions about the nature of reality, the self, knowledge, suffering, liberation, morality, and the meaning of a good life. Emphasis is placed on careful reading of historical texts, reconstruction and evaluation of philosophical arguments, and the development of students own philosophical writing and reasoning skills.
