PHIL 308 - History of Western Philosophy Unit(s): 4
This course provides a historical introduction to major figures and themes in Western philosophy from antiquity through the medieval and early modern periods. Students will engage directly with primary philosophical texts addressing central questions about the good life, human knowledge, the nature of reality, God, freedom, and moral responsibility. Emphasis is placed on careful reading of historical texts, reconstruction and evaluation of philosophical arguments, and the development of students’ own philosophical writing and reasoning skill.
