NURS 424 - Mental Health Nursing Unit(s): 3
This didactic course introduces nursing knowledge and foundational skills for psychiatric and mental health care. Emphasizing therapeutic relationships, assessment, and integrated management, it explores evidence-based interventions, including psychotherapeutic, biobehavioral, and pharmacological approaches. Students learn trauma-informed care, relapse prevention, and strategies to promote mental well-being while addressing access, equity, and cultural competence. The course integrates Caritas Science, Reflective Practices, and strategies to support self-care and the therapeutic use of self in nursing practice.
Prerequisite: NURS 381 with a minimum grade of C and NURS 388 with a minimum grade of S and NURS 380 with a minimum grade of C and NURS 382 with a minimum grade of S Corequisite: NURS425, NURS427, NURS423, NURS426 Restriction: Major Restricted to Nursing School Nursing & Health Professions
