NURS 381 - Care of Children and Families Unit(s): 3
This didactic course prepares students to provide evidence-based care for children from infancy through adolescence. Students will master age-specific assessments, growth and development principles, and family-centered care. The course covers common pediatric conditions, safe medication administration, therapeutic communication, and pediatric clinical skills. Emphasizing health promotion, illness prevention, and healthcare equity, students develop critical thinking through immersive learning experiences including role-play, and case studies. Special focus is given to pain assessment, atraumatic care, cultural humility, and advocacy. Rooted in Jesuit values, the course fosters cura personalis, service to others, and reflective practice.
Corequisite: NURS-380; NURS-382; NURS-388 School of Nursing and Health Professions
