COMS 204 - Communication & Culture

This introduction to the field of communication examines how cultures and sub-cultures differ in their language use, and how their communicative practices shape the production, interpretation, and reproduction of social meanings. Students will learn how to conduct fieldwork to study everyday cultural communication.

Prerequisite: concurrent RHET 120 with a minimum grade of C- or concurrent RHET 110 with a minimum grade of C- or concurrent RHET 126 with a minimum grade of C- or concurrent RHET 131 with a minimum grade of C- or RHET 140 with a minimum grade of C- or RHET 195 with a minimum grade of C- or concurrent RHET 250 with a minimum grade of C- or SII 120 with a minimum grade of C- or concurrent RHET 295 with a minimum grade of C- or RHET 195 with a minimum grade of C- or RHET 320 with a minimum grade of C- or (concurrent HONC 130 with a minimum grade of C- and concurrent HONC 131 with a minimum grade of C-)
