LAW 734 - Election Law Unit(s): 3
Students in this course will consider laws that seek to increase the accountability of elected officials and to limit or otherwise regulate the role of money in politics, including laws related to campaign financing, lobbying, governmental transparency, and conflicts of interest. The class will explore the competing values implicated by reform efforts in this area and will learn the key legal doctrines that courts have used to assess the constitutionality of such efforts. Students will question professional practitioners about the consequences and effectiveness of these efforts and will learn how to apply relevant rules to situations faced by campaigns and governmental officials.
