SPAN 376 - Fotograf Unit(s): 4
In this class, taught entirely in Spanish, students explore aesthetic, philosophical and historical aspects of photography, emphasizing the relationship between photography and the following topics: memory, truth and citizenry. After a workshop at the Harvey Milk Photo Center to gain skills in photographic composition, analog photography and dark room printing, students produce a photo project and curate an exhibit at the Center’s gallery. Themes for the final project center on an exploration of memory in the Bay Area’s Latinx community or an exploration of Bay Area’s urban spaces impacted by Latinx subjects. Students view photographic work and read theory in the topic area, with a focus on cases in the Spanish speaking world and the Latinx community.
