UPA 673 - Urban Food Policy Unit(s): 4
This seminar encourages students to critically analyze the politics of food provisioning, as well as efforts to promote food justice and sustainability. We examine the role of policy and planning, at multiple scales, in shaping highly uneven landscapes of contemporary consumption and production. Our analysis extends beyond the conventional food system to a wide variety of actors, institutions, and policy strategies aimed at addressing agrifood sustainability and equity – from urban gardens, community-supported agriculture, and food labeling to food sovereignty and food-chain worker organizing campaigns.
