NURS 7007 - Enviro & Occup Effects/Health Unit(s): 2
This course is designed to introduce the Population Health Leadership DNP student to a wide range of human health risks associated with the environment, including air, water, food, and product exposures. Students will learn where to find the peer-reviewed and non peer-reviewed information. The basic framework for US environmental and occupational health laws and regulations will be reviewed from the perspective of how they do or do not protect human health. In accordance with the Institute of Medicine Report: Nursing, Health and the Environment, students will learn how environmental health can be integrated into nursing education, practice, research, and policy/advocacy efforts. They will consider exposures to self, their patients/clients and communities, in addition to ways in which they will include environmental exposures and associated anticipatory guidance into their patient/community assessments, patient/community education and other interventions.
