PSYD 708 - Socialization to Clinical Psychology Seminar

This course provides students with a broad professional perspective as part of their socialization into the profession of clinical psychology. The focus is on introduction to common factors, as well as basic psychotherapeutic counseling methods and skills. There will be an introduction to cultural factors in clinical work (e.g., ADDRESSING model, APA multicultural guidelines), with an emphasis on exploration of students’ worldviews as related to clinical practice. Orientation to graduate school, critical inquiry, lifelong learning, and varied professional topics, (e.g., networking, effective communication skills), will be covered. Students will also develop application materials for practicum (e.g., CV, cover letters).
