This course emphasizes the need for professional nursing intervention in the optimal functioning and management of disease of the individual. The course builds on previous knowledge of pharmacology, pathophysiology and the management of acute illness across adulthood. Emphasis will be placed on the principles of physiological, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual diversity across the lifespan as they affect the perception, management and coping skills of patients and families faced with chronicity and disease sequelae. The clinical nurse leader role will be seen as integral to the case management and supervision of adults and families as they cope with the physical and psychological demands of chronic illness.
