ENVS 375 - GIS 1 w/ Lab

This course combines theoretical coverage and hands-on lab work to provide an introduction to geographic information systems (GIS), global positioning systems (GPS) and remote sensing science. The course covers the latest developments in the field, including how scientists are using geospatial data across many disciplines and various applications. Lab activities utilize both widely available freeware and ArcGIS, providing an introduction to the GIS industry standard software. Lab exercises and applications stimulate spatial thinking as it relates to environmental issues. Students gain knowledge of geospatial technologies and a diverse array of application areas enabling them to integrate spatial thinking and analysis into their research and careers and/or pursue further training in GIS, GPS and remote sensing.
