PHYS 115 - Physics for a Better World Unit(s): 4
This introductory science course for non-science majors covers foundational principles and frontier topics in physics, astronomy and chemistry. Topics include the basics of mechanics, light and colors, waves and sound, heat and temperature, electric circuits, sustainable sources of energy, and the origin and evolution of stars (with specific emphasis on our Sun and our future). Particular emphasis is placed on development of scientific principles and their application in understanding the world around us. Laboratories enhance student understanding of physics and chemistry principles and content presented in lectures. Course involves math such as simple algebra, manipulation of equations and proportionality relations.
Corequisite: PHYS-115L College of Arts and Sciences
