BUS 386 - Event Planning with a Purpose

Unit(s): 4

Most people are familiar with large scale events such as music festivals, conventions, weddings, or award shows; but events can also be used on a smaller scale to support communities, educate, raise awareness about a cause or issue, or for fundraising. Through this community-engaged learning (CEL) course, students facilitate “events with a purpose” by working with local organizations that use events to bring community members together to support their communities’ needs. Students gain the skills to plan an event of any size, and learn how to integrate local partner-organizations into them so that all may benefit from the event. In alignment with USF’s public purpose, students respond to organization-identified priorities and needs related to event planning and implementation for their communities, and develop their own capacities to be involved meaningfully in civic life.
